What is MMP-9 Testing ?
Among testing options available at our clinic, patients may encounter MMP-9 testing. We utilize INFLAMMADRY which is a quick in-office test used to detect elevated levels of MMP-9 in a patient’s tear film. MMP-9 is an inflammatory marker that is consistently elevated in patients with dry eye disease. Often inflammation is present on the ocular surface even before clinical signs appear. Testing levels of MMP-9 can help identify these patients and assist in determining not only the proper diagnosis, but the proper treatment plan.
Inflammation is often present before clinical signs of dry eye. MMP-9 testing can help identify patients with suspected dry eye or ocular surface disease before the disease progresses.
Early diagnosis can reduce complications associated with dry eye and help improve clinical outcomes and patient quality of life.
Testing is performed in our clinic with results available during your visit. Inflammadry results are a key factor in determining which treatment plan is right for your individual needs.
During testing, a soft sample collector is pressed against the inside of the lower eyelid approximately 6-8 times. Your tear sample is then combined with a buffer vial and results will be obtained in as little as 10 minutes. Because Inflammadry testing delivers such rapid and accurate testing, both testing and diagnosing your dry eye disease can occur during the same office visit.
