What is Optilight IPL?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy is a non-invasive light-based therapy used to treat dry eye disease. By using short pulses of intense broad spectrum light, IPL therapy reduces inflammation and improves oil gland function to achieve a more stable and healthy tear film. While artificial tears treat only the symptoms of dry eye, IPL targets the source allowing for a more effective long-term solution. Treatment sessions are quick, lasting only about 15 minutes. Patients generally undergo four sessions four weeks apart for maximum effect. Our office uses the OptiLight which is currently the first and only IPL FDA approved to treat dry eye disease and meibomian gland dysfunction.
IPL is ideal for
moderate to severe dry eye disease
meibomian gland dysfunction
Rosacea related inflammation
Blepharitis , Demodex, Eyelid redness
Post lasik or cataract surgery discomfort/irritation
Studies have indicated 80-90% of patients experienced improvement of dry eye symptoms after 4 sessions.
OptiLight IPL isn’t just for dry eye
IPL therapy can also be used to treat dermatological conditions such as rosacea, age spots, sun spots, acne, freckles, uneven skin tone or texture, general facial redness, and unwanted body hair? Our office is happy to provide treatment for these aesthetic conditions as well
